Warranty ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Section 1: SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS For Microsoft(R) Windows(R) 95 and Windows(R) 98 Operating Systems: · Pentium(R) 166 MHz PC or faster · Windows(R) 95 or Windows(R) 98 · Quad Speed (4x) CD-ROM drive · 32 MB RAM · 80 MB Hard drive space available · 16-bit color display capability at 800x600 resolution, with 2 MB VRAM · 16-bit compatible sound card · Standard Keyboard and Mouse · Ink Jet Printer recommended · Required joystick port for connection Section 2: INSTALL/UNINSTALL TIPS A) Installing the Program Windows(R) 95 and Windows(R) 98: 1. Start Windows(R) 95 or Windows(R) 98. 2. Remove the CD from its protective case and place it in the CD-ROM drive of your computer. Use a disc caddy if your CD-ROM requires one. Insert the Barbie(R) Magic Genie Bottle and CD-ROM to begin to play. 3. If the Autoplay feature is enabled, installation of the program will begin automatically; just follow the onscreen instructions. If your Autoplay feature is not enabled, please complete the following steps: · On your Windows(R) desktop, double-click the My Computer icon. · Double-click on the CD icon. · Double-click on the Setup icon and follow the onscreen instructions. · When the installation is complete, you may be asked to restart your computer. Starting If the Autoplay feature is enabled, the game will begin automatically when you insert the CD in the CD-ROM drive. Otherwise, go to the Start menu on your Windows(R) desktop, select Programs, then the Barbie(R) Magic Genie folder (or whatever folder you installed to), and click the Barbie(R) Magic Genie icon. Double-click on the Barbie(R) Magic Genie icon in the program folder. For future game play, you can create a desktop "alias" by pressing Command Key + M and then dragging the program icon alias to the desktop. B) Uninstalling the Program Windows(R) 95 and Windows(R) 98: 1. Click the Start button on the Taskbar to bring up the Start menu. 2. Select Programs and then the Mattel Interactive/Barbie(R) Magic Genie CD-ROM folder. 3. Click the Uninstall Barbie(R) Magic Genie icon. 4. Follow the on-screen instructions to finish the uninstall process. 5. Please be sure to restart your computer after uninstall to ensure that all of the program files have been removed. Section 3: GENERAL TIPS AND TROUBLESHOOTING General Tips 1. Restart your computer after uninstall to ensure that all of the program files have been removed. 2. Always start your game with the cap on the bottle. 3. You can play the game without using the Magic Genie Bottle. When the test screen asks you if you see the sparkling animations, wait and then click the YES button. To use the bottle click the F5 key for rubbing the bottle and F6 for removing the cap from the bottle. 4. When traveling between the lands, you can click on the Magical Map and the Medallion. These items will open up. To close the items, just click on them again. 5. You can print the coloring pages of the adventures from the Barbie(R) Magic Genie CD-ROM. They are located in the Data folder and are in Bitmap format. 6. On the Medallion print out there is an illustration that shows you how to use string and tape to create your very own Medallion that you can wear. 7. If you do not have the required joystick port but you do have a USB port, you can use a standard USB to Gameport adapter to connect the bottle to your computer. Troubleshooting This section discusses performance issues you might encounter as you play Barbie(R) Magic Genie Bottle and CD-ROM. A) Display and Graphic Issues Windows(R) 95 and Windows(R) 98: If you experience display problems while running Barbie(R) Magic Genie Bottle and CD-ROM: 1. Make sure that your display setting is at 640 X 480 resolution and 16-bit high color. To do this: · Go to the Start menu on your Windows(R) taskbar and select Settings. · Select Control Panel. · Click on the Display icon, then choose Settings. You can adjust your settings here. (Note: You may need to restart your computer after applying your new settings. Make sure you close all open programs before restarting.) 2. Contact your video card or systems vendor to obtain the latest version of their video driver. (Note: Updated video drivers may be available through the Internet.) 3. Make sure other applications are closed while the game is running. B) Performance Issues Windows(R) 95 and Windows(R) 98: If Barbie(R) Magic Genie runs slowly or freezes: 1. Close any unnecessary applications, including screen savers that may be running. We do not recommend running the game while other programs are open. 2. Check to make sure you have the minimum system requirements. C) Music, Sound Effects, and Dialog If you are having trouble hearing the game sounds, please check the following: 1. Make sure that your computer speakers are turned ON and the volume is adjusted properly. 2. Make sure that you do not have the SOUND muted. Double click on the small speaker icon in the Taskbar at the bottom of your screen to check. 3. For Windows(R) 95 or Windows(R) 98 users, if your sound system is configured with an incorrect or outdated sound driver, the sound may not play properly. Contact your sound card manufacturer to obtain the current sound drivers. (Note: You may be able to download this from the Internet.) 4. Click the F2 button on your keyboard to see if the music has been turned off. 5. Open the DirectX(R) Diagnostics window, and under the Sounds Tab move the Hardware Acceleration Sound Level to the left one or two notches. D) Printing Problems Windows(R) 95 or Windows(R) 98 If you're having trouble printing pages from the game, please check the following: 1. Make sure your printer is plugged into your computer correctly, has paper in the tray, and is turned on. (Also make sure your printer is in the Ready mode.) 2. Make sure that you are able to print from Windows(R) 95 or Windows(R) 98 with other applications. 3. For Windows(R) 95 or Windows(R) 98 users, contact your printer manufacturer for the latest drivers for your printer. (Note: Updated drivers may be available through the Internet.) E) If your Magic Genie Bottle is not working correctly follow these set up steps: 1. From your Windows(R) toolbar select Settings. 2. From the Settings options select Control Panel. 3. In the Control Panel folder select Game Controller. 4. Click on the Add button and highlight the 2-axis, 2-button joystick. 5. Click on OK. 6. Click on the Properties button to bring up the test screen. 7. Remove the lid from the bottle. The number one should light up. 8. Wave your hand in front of the pink center jewel. The number 2 should light up. You are now ready to use your Magic Genie Bottle! *If these steps do not work, refer to your Computer Manual to make sure that you have the connector plugged into the Game Port.
