Minimum System Requirements ******************************************************************* Pentium II, 233MHz or better Windows 95, 98, 2000, and above 64 MB RAM 30 MB hard drive space Video SVGA 16 X CD-ROM Drive (24x recommended) Sound card -- Sound Blaster compatible Joystick & Game Pad compatible ******************************************************************* II. Installing & Uninstalling the Program ******************************************************************* If you are using the AutoPlay feature of Windows®: 1. Insert Jurassic Park III: Dino Defender into your CD-ROM drive. 2. Click Install when the Menu Screen appears and follow the prompts. If you are not using AutoPlay, follow these steps: 1. Click Start and then move the cursor to Settings 2. Click Control Panel, then double-click Add/Remove Programs. 3. Click Install, then Next, then follow the onscreen instructions to complete installation. Uninstalling the Program under Windows® 1. Click on Start, move cursor to Settings, and click Control Panel. 2. Double-click on Add/Remove Programs. 3. Click on Dino Defender, click on Add/Remove, and then click Yes. 4. Go to Windows® Explorer and delete the Dino Defender folder from the 'Jurassic Park III Games' folder on your hard drive. ******************************************************************* III. Playing the Game ******************************************************************* Renegade dinosaurs may be hidden anywhere throughout Jurassic Park and every Dino Defender needs to be in top physical shape to find them all. You may have to climb, leap, run, jump - or a combination of these moves to get through the world. Look for equipment boxes and be sure to carry plenty of items with you. Use call boxes to lure creatures within range then nab them with your Dino Defender gear. Keep your eyes and ears open and don't be afraid to explore. In fact, you have to be adventurous if you want to be a true Dino Defender! Quick Reference Keyboard Commands: ------------------------------------------------------- WALK - left arrow, right arrow RUN - hold < shift > + left arrow / right arrow LEAP - < spacebar > JUMP UP / GRAB LEDGE - up arrow CLIMB - up arrow, down arrow, left arrow, right arrow ACTIVATE SWITCH - up arrow CROUCH - down arrow CRAWL - down arrow to get to crawling position. Then left arrow / right arrow. GATHER GEAR - up arrow THROW GEAR - < enter > THROW CALL BOX - down arrow to get to crouching position. Then < enter >. INVENTORY SCREEN - hold down the " i " key GAME MENU / QUIT - < esc > The program will auto-detect for attached peripheral game controllers. To configure your game controller, go to the Game Menu. Then select Options and follow the onscreen instructions. Main Menu ******************************************************************* Press ESCAPE at any point during the game to see the MAIN MENU screen and to access these functions: Return to Game - Click here to return to the game. Load Game - Click here to access the LOAD / SAVE Screen. Save Game - Click here to access the LOAD / SAVE Screen. Options - Click here to access the OPTIONS screen and change the volume, view credits and configure your joystick or game pad. Exit - Click here to exit the program. ******************************************************************* V. Saving and Loading Games ******************************************************************* Click SAVE GAME or LOAD GAME on the Main Menu to access the LOAD / SAVE screen and these functions: * Save Game - To save your current game, click on an empty slot in the mission list, then click on the SAVE GAME button. If all ten slots are filled, click on one of the missions in the list, then click on the SAVE GAME button to erase that mission and replace it with your current one. * Load Game - To load a game, click on a mission in the Mission List to select it, then click on the LOAD GAME button. * Options - Click here to go to the OPTIONS screen, where you can configure your joystick or game pad, change the audio volume of the game or view the credits. * Back Button - Click here to return to the previous menu screen. * Exit - Click here to exit the program. ******************************************************************* VI. Options Screen ******************************************************************* Click OPTIONS on the SAVE / LOAD GAME screen to access the OPTIONS screen which displays these features: * JOYSTICK or GAME PAD CONFIGURATION - If a joystick or game pad is attached to your computer the Option screen will display text which reads CONFIGURE JOYSTICK OR GAME PAD. Click here to choose the buttons you'll use to play Dino Defender. If no joystick or game pad is attached to your computer the message No Joystick Attached appears in this space. * VOLUME Slider - Click and slide the VOLUME slider to change the audio volume. * CREDITS - Click here to see the credits. * BACK Button - Click here to return to the previous menu screen. ******************************************************************* VII. Configuring your Joystick or Game Pad ******************************************************************* Dino Defender can be played with the keyboard, a game pad or a joystick. To configure your game pad or joystick: 1. Enter the options screen. 2. Click on the "Configure Joystick" button. If this button is not available, check to make sure that your joystick is correctly attached. 3. In the joystick configuration screen you can change the button used for running, jumping, throwing and inventory. To change a button, click on one of the commands ("Run", "Jump", "Throw", "Inventory"), then press the button on your joystick that you would like to use for that command. 4. When you have finished assigning buttons, click the back button to return to the options screen. Note: Be sure you are using all the latest drivers for your Joystick of Game Pad. If you have questions regarding performance of your peripheral, please consult that manufacturer's instruction manual or website for the latest updates. We are aware of the following incompatibilities: If your Joystick or Game Pad drivers are not Windows 2000 or newer, your controller will not function on the Windows 2000. ******************************************************************* VIII. Troubleshooting ******************************************************************* If the program is very slow: ----------------------------------- 1. Close any unnecessary applications that may be running. 2. Make sure your display setting is at 640x480 resolution and 16 bit or high color. Refer to your system or Windows documentation. If display problems occur: ---------------------------------- If you experience graphics problems while running the program, contact your video card or system vendor to obtain the latest version of their video driver. If sound problems occur: --------------------------------- If you experience sound problems while running the program, contact your sound card or system vendor to obtain the latest version of their sound driver. Screen savers: -------------------- If you are running a screen saver in the background and experience video and sound problems during the program, disable the screen saver and the problem should be resolved. Refer to your screen saver documentation on how to disable the screen saver. Windows 95 TaskBar: ------------------------------ The Windows 95 Taskbar may interfere with the user's ability to view graphics, animations and program information. If you encounter difficulties when the Windows 95 Taskbar appears on-screen, enable the Taskbar's Autohide feature: * Click the Start button, then select Settings, then Taskbar. * At the dialog box that appears, uncheck 'Always on top' and check 'Auto hide'. * Click the 'Apply' button, then the 'OK' button. You also have the option of relocating the Taskbar to different sides of the display screen: * Click and hold down the mouse pointer on a blank area of the Taskbar. * Drag and release the Taskbar on the side of the screen where it causes the least interference. Note: If you need to access the Taskbar or the Start menu at any time while the program is running, press CTRL+ESC. To return to the program, click on the program's display area, or press ALT+TAB until the program's icon is selected. ****************************************************************** IX.
